Aerospace Studies (AS) 300 – Exploring Space: The High Frontier 40%
Leadership Education (LE) 300 – Life Skills and Career Opportunities 40%

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
AS 300- (40%) This new course provides students with the latest information on exploring space and an introduction to cybersecurity and technology. The textbook will begin with early astronomy and the basic interest in the universe from the Greeks through the Renaissance and Enlightenment ages. Students will be provided an in-depth view of the solar system, including Earth, the Sun, the Moon, and planets. The text also discussed the history of space travel and more modern space probes and robotics. Students will examine the effects of space on the human body. The text also investigates the history of rockets, launch vehicles, and the coordinated systems required for a successful launch into space. Finally, the text will offer a cybersecurity chapter that outlines the importance of cybersecurity in space and in daily life.
LE 300- (40%) will be helpful to students deciding which path to take after high school. Students will be introduced to real life issues. Information will also be presented about financial planning, how to save, invest, and spend money wisely.
Wellness & Physical Fitness- (20%) portion will incorporate the Cadet Health & Wellness program (CHWP). It is an exercise program focused upon individual base line improvements with the goal of achieving Presidential Physical Fitness (PPF) standards calculated by age and gender. The goal is to motivate cadets to lead active, healthy lifestyles beyond program requirements and into their adult lives. Cadets will be given the opportunity to put into practice the wellness concepts that are taught in LE 100. Students WILL wear the issued SC-922 Corps T-shirt, USAF sweat shirt, and shorts, and be responsible to wear the appropriate attire (shorts/sweats & athletic shoes, white or black socks) on Fridays.

SC-922 Cadet E-Guide
UNIFORM DAY:
Cadets will wear the issued Air Force uniform ALL DAY usually on Tuesday. If you have an excused absence make up is Thursday. Cadets will wear their Physical Training uniform on Fridays. HABITUAL NON-WEAR OF THE UNIFORM AND FAILURE TO MAINTAIN STANDARDS WILL RESULT IN A FAILING GRADE AND DISMISSAL FROM THE PROGRAM. Wearing the uniform is a Department of Defense requirement for all JROTC units. Uniforms are issued to each cadet at no cost. Cadets are, however, responsible for the proper maintenance and cleaning of their uniform during weekly wear and final turn-in.
***Cadets may be disenrolled at any time during the semester with proper cause. ***
All Air Force JROTC Cadets will comply with Air Force standards of grooming, wearing the uniform weekly, acceptance of strict standards of discipline, daily customs & courtesies (i.e. military bearing), any and all other training.
A recommendation from the Senior Aerospace Science Instructor is required in order to advance to the next course level in subsequent years. This recommendation will be based on the cadet’s willingness to adjust and adapt to all of the above listed areas. Additionally, the cadet must have a minimum passing grade of 70 and have no disciplinary infractions. The Senior Aerospace Science Instructor and Principal also reserve the right on any and all other reasons deemed appropriate.
ASSIGNMENTS:
Cadets will be assigned chapters to read from the applicable text. A review of the text material in addition to quizzes and tests will be conducted using the Computer Performance System. The CPS system allows the presentation of a variety of questions that the students will answer via their own hand held clicker. This system also has multiple means of review and giving exams.

B -- 80-89 Exams / quizzes 30%
C -- 70-79 Uniform / Daily customs & courtesies 40%
D – 60-69 Wellness & Physical Fitness 20%

EXPECTATIONS FOR CADETS:
Community Service: Cadets will have opportunities to perform Air Force JROTC sponsored community service projects during each semester.
Field Trips: Cadets must be in good academic and disciplinary standing in ALL of their respective JICHS classes to participate.
Class Behavior: The nature of our mission, as well as its high visibility within the school and community, demands that all cadets adhere to higher standards.
